FRSLearn
Transforming collaboration and delivering technology-enhanced learning excellence for the UK FRS

In order to better serve the UK fire sector, I worked with a small group other instructional designers to create an online resource hub.
The idea was to reduce duplication of work, drive high standards (centred around the National Operational Guidance framework) into the industry and offer cost and time savings to UK Fire and Rescue Services (FRS).
As a team we have created a learning resource platform called FRSLearn. It’s a digital learning resource hub for FRS Learning and Development personnel where everything is free, and where people can source high quality, instructionally robust digital learning material and assets.

We encouraged the community to take the available resources and use them in their Service, edit and rework the available content and resubmit it to the site for others, as well as, submitting their own original works to grow the catalogue.
The project was eventually picked up and sponsored by the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) and formed a key part of their blended learning project.
NFCC learning materials team
When the community project was made into an official NFCC workstream, I was part of the inaugural team of instructional designers producing digital learning material for the UK fire sector in 2020-2021. I worked on digital learning in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy helping FRSs all over UK learn from the resulting inquiry, and the dangers associated with rapidly emerging battery technologies and the devices they power. The team was overssen by the Home Office and steered by the NFCC. Alas, it became a budgetary victim of Covid . . .
